Easter HAT -2018

Time fly! Here I am again presenting this year's Easter hat.Starting of the march is the time when kids starts thinking about the idea of Easter hat or Easter bonnet for school parade. Like every year, this year also, we were so excited to make our 3rd Easter hat/Bonnet for school's Parade.

My DS won the prize for his previous Hats. On his very first HAT we made two faces of earth and the message given was "save earth". This year also we wanted to make a hat with social message.

Like you all know I love recycling so, this year also I made Easter hat from scratch, and for decorations I used old hat's decoration and drawings. In the market many shops have cheap Easter decoration items, You can just buy and get your creativity flowing and enjoy making your Easter hat. There are many ways  you can can make Easter Hat/Bonnet for boys or girls, but if you want to make a hat from scratch, Join me here.

I was discussing with my DS that how can we use old Hat's thing to make new hat as I was really keen to reuse the Earth . Like always he gave me the idea to make a big water drop out of the old earth and .......VOILA! instead of 1 big water drop we made lots of 2d water drops coming from the tap! So idea was clear that means finally time to collect the things:

Things I have used:

  • Paper plate
  • News paper/  tissue paper
  • Craft knifes
  • Cardboards
  • Colours and brush
  • Pen
  • Toilet rolls
  • Foil tube
  • Foil
  • Some printouts of drops
  • Few real dry twigs and green grass
  • Tissue papers
  • Plastic toys
  • Other Easter related thing like eggs, chickens etc
  • Coloured papers
  • Glue/ Glue gun

Measure the size and cut the circle out like the pictures below:

Cover it with the vertical cardboard sheet:

Just to give it a stronger feel I glued another sheet of cardboard:

Cover the Sheet with another Paper so that you can cover the top.

Cover it in the center of the hat. Cover all the hat with tissue paper or news papers. Here I am using some old magazine papers.

Stick toilet tissue roll around the circle to give it a bumpy look.

Time to make a tap. For this I used foil tube and cardboard :

Covered it with foil:

Now as your skeleton is all ready  time to start making the water drops. Just draw the water drop and cover it with the any fancy paper.

Cover all your tap with foil. just cut the paper in frills and give it a look of flowing water.

Stick all your decoration.

Easter is incomplete without bunny, so here is the bunny getting ready for Easter.

And here is the final look of this year's Easter hat. hope you all like it. Thanks for looking.

Easter hat Made out of cardboard from scratch - 2016

"There is a Easter hat competition in my school and I have to wear it for Easter hat parade” said my 5 yr old to me excitedly and here is me, Easter hat/ Bonnet, what is it now?? Do we have to make it ourselves? How to make that wearable? Can we just buy a hat and decorate it? I had no clue what it is all about!

When I discussed it with one of my dear friend she told me about the beautiful tradition of Easter bonnet. No Easter hat celebration in primary school is complete without the Easter bonnet.

Next was to do research to make one on our own! When we browsed the internet, it was flooded with so many ideas and it added to the confusion but we my son had something else in mind he said instead of simple decoration I want to add a social message with it.

His idea was to show two faces of the earth, the green face and the ill or sad face. The massage that we wanted to give was “For future springs save our home now”

Next step was to execute the idea practically! So with rough outline in my mind, I started working on my first ever Easter bonnet and we were quite happy with the final outcome.

I was focusing on the decorations only. So, I made a hat with the cardboard sheets. You can use any normal hat or can make one with cardboard. In normal hat cut the top so that your earth can fit in.

Here is the details of the items I used:

  • Balloon
  • News paper/  tissue paper
  • Craft knifes
  • Cardboards
  • Colours and brush
  • Ribbon
  • Some printouts
  • Few real dry twigs and green grass
  • Tissue papers
  • Plastic toys
  • Other easter related thing like eggs, chickens etc
  • Coloured papers
  • Glue/ Glue gun

Have a look at the steps by step pictorial presentation of my craft.

STEP 1

: Making of earth- top part of bonnet
Like any other paper mache work, I took a balloon and covered it with the piece of news papers. I covered at least 4 layers of news paper.

TIP:  let the first layer dry completely before putting the next layer of newspaper or tissues or if you are really impatient like me, use the hair dryer instead. The base and the balloon was like this in the picture below:

STEP: 2

Colouring of globe

  • Plan was to show the two face of earth, half is greener, for that we chose original colour which is blue.
  • And other half is dry, for that I chose black colour, you can choose any colour.
  • Give some detailing . I chose to decorate with green duct tape and white paper.
  • For the face ( eyes and mouth) I chose normal 2d drawings on simple paper
  • Stick all your details on earth.

STEP 3:

Green detailing of the hat base

  • Time to use your imagination here, I Covered the base with twigs for the green side of earth, tried to show the natural part of the earth, the pond, little animals.eggs, flowers, green grass and so on.

STEP 4:

  • The dry part of the earth
  • I chose to cover my base with the brown packing paper
  • Lots of 2d paper printouts of industrialisation, pollution, environmental effect etc. It was more over a sticking work only.
  • All the work was covered with dry twigs instead of green grass.

After finishing both the sides the look was like below in the picture:
it was clearly showing the two sides of earth, green side and dry land.

STEP 5

  • For that I made a giant bunny on a4 cardboard sheets .
  • Covered it with the cotton and gave him lil detailings.
  • Outlined with some sketch colour

STEP 6
  • Now this awesome bunny is going to hold the earth.
  • Just stick at the back side of the earth.

  • Message written on the back side on a paper.

Finally , here is the my first ever attempt of Easter hat cum bonnet. With lots of detailing and hard work it came out really well. The best thing was, that my little one liked it a lot and won the first prize .

My extreme Cardboard project -1 shelf without sticking to wall in easy 6 STEPS!

Hi crafters,

Hope you all are enjoying crafts. As you all know that I strongly believe in using the things which you already have. Its my way of recycling.

So in that series, today I am showing you all a very easy and effective way to make a shelf under the table or at any  place where you don't want to put nails, especially for rented houses with less storage.
We purchased a table few years back which is still kept in a corner in the room, since then. I did a huge extension of the table by adding 8 drawers and 2 almirah on top of the drawers. It has not only enhanced the look but also has expanded the storing capacity.

I wish, this project will encourage the hidden ideas of creative ones to come in shape and this post will help you to figure out the things and do experiments together.

In today's post I will only show you how to attach /make drawers without sticking anything anywhere.

Things you need :

1) Cradboard, cardboard and lot of cardboards
2) PVA glue
3) Glue gun
4) Craft knife
5) Decorative paper (optional)
6) Scissor

So, first thing first take a measurement of width and length, here is my unused table.  wanted to make some drawers in this empty box section, without sticking and putting nails etc.

STEP :1

The idea I had in my mind was going to apply on cardboards. In the beginning I made the two strong sheets of cardboard, for that I glued 4 pieces of cardboard together. Alternating the grain of the cardboard will increase the strength considerably. For the dividing shelf base, 4 pieces were used as well. Here I made 2 strong sheets of cardboard as shown in the picture below.

STEP :2

The next part is to make drawer sections, for that make a strong cardboard sheet (by sticking 4 card boards together, soon i will upload a tutorial on this as well) and cut 1 to 1.5 inch strips, stick them accordingly. These stripes plays main role in the making of shelf, because they are the one who is going to hold the weight of the divider and the drawers. Sometimes I use cable tie to tie them with cardboards. I am showing u all the closer view of the stripe I sicked.

Please measure the height of drawers and stick the stripes on both of the walls. Your both walls should be identical and are ready, now its time to make them stand on the sides of the box space, showing below in the picture.

STEP : 3

After your side vertical walls are ready, Its time to make the divider/drawer base, because I am making 3 drawers, hence made 2 base sheet, which are going to settle on two stripes. As I mentioned above each base sheet is made out of 4 glued sheet together with altering grains as it always increases the strength of sheet.

 STEP:4

Place them in between the walls and you will get 3 section for drawers.

STEP : 5

Next step is to make cardboard drawers. I made 3 cardboard drawers here and for covering them, I chose wall paper, but, any of a number of finishes can be used, depending on the desired look. It could be acrylic paint, wall paper, decorative paper cloth or oil based colour, the choice it totally up to you.

STEP:6

Be proud , your creation is all ready!

The final table turned out to be super robust I can actually put quite a bit of weight on this without any problem. Thanks for looking my crafts. stay tuned for lot of upcoming crafts.
